Shockwave
Adobe Shockwave, formerly known as Macromedia Shockwave, or Shockwave, was Macromedia's first and most successful multimedia player prior to the advent of Adobe Flash. In attempt to raise its brand profile, all Macromedia players prepended Shockwave to their names in the late 1990s.
Shockwave's primary use is game development, since it has a much faster rendering engine, including hardware-accelerated 3D blend modes for layered display of graphic assets, and support for various network protocols, like Internet Relay Chat (IRC).
