I’m getting a browser redirect error when I turn on “Use secure URLS in frontend”
Here’s a forum post from a few folks w/ the same problem.
http://www.magentocommerce.com/boards/viewthread/70421/
Whenever I try to view a secure URL in my frontend it gives the error. Just wondering if you ever ran into this problem and if you had any ideas on a possible solution.
I’m able to type the https addresses just fine via my address bar, but Magento is causes the redirect loop error when I try to navigate to a secure page in the frontend.
My base url & secure base urls are set correctly in the backend & I’ve refreshed my cache. I’m running 1.3.2.4
Thank you - Any help is appreciated!

Will this work even if you have multiple store fronts running on the same Magento backend?

Many thanks for this, very nicely put together. I run a local offline version (DEV), a testing online version (UAT) and a production version (LIVE)... Your article covers all of the processes required to roll back / roll out… Nice work.

Thanks for this information - we had some trouble setting up a Magento staging area and this article was very clear and useful!

We have done everything mentioned. It works fantastic apart from downloader.
I installed an extension using Magento connect and it installed the extension to production environment rather than staging environment.
Any help please
thanks

Hi Joe,
The downloader thing can be tricky. But there is a way to *manually* package and install that extension. Check out: http://freegento.com/ddl-magento-extension.php

How relevant is this guide? I have tried to follow this guide meticulously, at first glance everything looks fine, the only problems I run into is the downloader as others have encountered, but I also get an error when trying to reindex I get “There was a problem with reindexing process.” for the category products.
I have a nagging feeling that there is something not stable with my production site, I suspect some extension I tried to install in the past has corrupted several files, and once I upgrade I will regret the day I was born! So before that I want to make sure I can run the upgrade on a staging website.
I’m not entirely satisfied that the staging website has been setup correctly. I have tried to follow your “Downloader Upgrades Wrong Store” guide, first I tried changing the relative paths as mentioned in the guide, but I’m not entirely confident that I have done this correctly.
When I install a fresh copy of the downloader file I and then run Mage_All_latest in SSH I get many errors as such “Notice: unserialize() : Error at offset .... of ...... bytes in PEAR/Registry.php on line 1145”.
Once I upload a fresh copy of the downloader is there something I have to do to initialise the file?Is there a way of reinstalling (reinitialising) Magento on my current version without getting Mage_All_Latest? Just running the setup wizard again doesn’t seem to do anything.
Thanks.
Shragi

Thanks! I’ve been upgrading from 1.4.2.1 to 1.5.1.0 and this article was handy. Maybe you need to point out the change to ./mage from ./pear. Thanks again.
